I began my college career in the Fall of 2003 as a Psychology major. I took my second semester off because I had no clue if I was doing the right thing by going to California State Northridge. I returned in the Fall of 2004 determined to finish my goal of graduating in order to become a psychologist. However, I began to realize how unhappy I was in the chosen field I had decided to study.
Ever since fifth grade, I have had dreams to move to New York and become a fashion designer. I used to have sketch books of all sorts of clothing I designed, styled, and priced - I even came up with a name for my clothing line and branded myself as an unofficial designer. By the end of high school, I decided to put my dreams on hold and focus on careers that were more stable for the "real world".
Fashion has always been a huge part of my life and putting my life-long dreams on hold came back to haunt me after only two semesters of college as a Psych student. I seamlessly changed my major to Family and Consumer Sciences with a focus on Apparel Design and Merchandising and quickly began to feel at home. I never understood and still do not understand why I decided to put my dreams on hold. I learned that my talent was not formed through my education, but it is based on the mere fact that I have it in my bones. My Mama Betty had an innate eye for fashion, which I am sure was passed down to me. Fashion has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember and I believe my education simply strengthens my credibility as a force to be reckoned with in the apparel industry... whenever I can get my foot in the door!
While in school, I was approached with the amazing opportunity to write for my department's newsletter, "The Betty". I wrote one article and I was hooked. One article turned into two, which turned into ten. The only problem was that I felt as if I had to hold back and hold my tongue because it was a school publication. I received my BS in Apparel Design and Merchandising with a minor in marketing in May 2009 from one of the most amazing colleges with one of the most underrated fashion departments. As all of you are aware, the economy was crap at that time - and still is - so I had to put my dreams on hold once again. However, my brother soon brought up blogging. He showed me a few of his friends' blogs and I was immediately intrigued. I signed up for this website and began blogging in October 2009.
Needless to say I have been blogging ever since. I try to blog everyday, but I am convinced that I have chronic writer's block. The greatest thing about my blog is that it is all me. I can write something, anything, when I want and post it when I please. I am the mastermind behind this creation and I could not be more proud - unless of course I could somehow create my own template.
So that is how this blog came about, a very brief and edited version of my story. I could give you many more details, but that would just be boring. So please join me on my journey to blogger success and eventually to my ultimate dream of being someone substantial in the fashion industry... because it will happen, someday.
XOXO
